Short Wave Diatheramy Unit (250W - 500 W)
High frequency current is an alternating current consisting of oscillations of a million or more in a second. Due to extremely rapid alternation of the current its action differs from that all other forms of electricity, principally thoroughly the absence of sensory or motor effect. SHORTWAVE DIATHERMY. ie., heating of body tissues. The equipment is particularly useful in the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
Due to an increase in the body temperature following physiological effects are produced.
Muscle Tissue
Rise in temperature induces muscle relaxation and increases the efficiency of muscle action
General rise in tempreture
The blood passing through the tissues being heated, carriers the heat to the other parts of the body causing a general rise in body temperature. The vasomotor center is affected, also the heat regulating center in the hypothalamus and a generalized dilation of the superficial blood vessel results.
Fall of blood pressure
The blood pressure tends to fall due to generalized vasodilation and reduced blood viscosity. Due to rise in temperature activity of sweet glands increases. This help to eliminate waste products.
General Features
Modern shortwave medical diathermy has been designed keeping in view complete safety for the patient as well as the operative. The high frequency power generated in the unit is electromagnetically coupled to the patient out put circuit.
» Both Models Unitherm - 250 & Unitherm - 400 has got built in timer which can be set to any period limited to 30 minutes. After that specific time, unit is automatically cut off. The output is regulated is steps and tuning control is also provided to maximize the power transfer to the patient. At the maximum power transfer level the an-aly meter provide at the front panel well give maximum deflection

Operating Feature :-
» ON/ OFF switch : to switch on the unit
» Mains lamp: to indicate the presence of mains supply & equipment is on.
» Meter: meter has been provided to facilitate easy tuning & to achieve maximum power transfer to the patients circuit. The meter will indicate peek at the optimum tuning.
» Timer : the timer can be set to any period limited up to 30 minutes. As soon as timer is set on out put circuit become on the out put is available at output sockets. After the present period is over the out put will be automatically cut off.
» Power control: to regulated power in 5 steps.
» Tuning: By adjusting this variable condenser the output in the patient's circuit can be maximized.
» Output socket: output socket, are provided on right side of the unit.
» Main socket: provided on the back side of the unit.
» Fuse holder: provided to protect inside circuit.
Operating Instruction :-
» Connect the two condenser pads to the output socket provided right side of the unit. Place the condenser pads on the patient's body where treatment is to be given.
» Connect the main cable & switch on the unit, Main lamp will glow.
» Set the timer for desired period.
» Set power control on desire position the panel meter will show some reading. Adjust the tuning control for the peak deflection. Generally position 2 or 3 of power control is sufficient.

Operating Features:-
» On / Off switch : to switch on the unit.
» Mains lamp: the glow of this lamp indicated the presence of mains.
» Meter on left side (0- 15 V) this meter indicates voltage upto 15 V. This meter has been provided to facilitate filament voltage of the valve. Red mark in the meter at about 9 V is a limit, the needle should be at red mark care should be taken that it should not cross it.
» Meter on right side: this meter has been provided to facilitate easy transfer to the patient's circuit. The meter will be indicate a peak at the optimum tuning.
» Timer: the timer can be set to any desired period upto 30 minuts, as soon as timer is on high tension circuit becomes on and output is available at out put sockets. After the persent period is over the output will be automatically cut off.
» Voltage regulator: to regulate the voltage of filament of valve i.e. to maintain needle of the meter upto red mark.
» Power control: to regulate power
